Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly have officially recognized September 4, 2025 as National Blood Donation Day, honoring the vital role blood donors play in saving lives and sustaining the health of our communities.
Governor Kehoe of Missouri and Governor Kelly of Kansas have both proclaimed Thursday, September 4, as Blood Donation Day in their respective states, joining governors across the country in recognizing the lifesaving importance of blood donation.
The proclamations underscore the ongoing need for blood donations, which help patients facing surgeries, trauma, cancer treatments, chronic illnesses, and other life-threatening conditions.
“On behalf of Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City, we are deeply grateful to Governor Kehoe and Governor Kelly for highlighting the critical importance of blood donation,” said Chelsea Tibbetts, Executive Director of Community Blood Center. “This recognition not only honors the generosity of our donors, but also shines a light on the constant need for blood to help patients in our hospitals and communities every day.”
This collective recognition comes at an especially important time. The summer months, especially around holiday weekends like Labor Day, bring a sharp drop in blood donations as residents celebrate the end of summer and prepare for the upcoming school year.
Community Blood Center is proud to join in celebrating this important recognition and encourages all eligible donors to schedule an appointment to give blood. Make an appointment today: Donate Blood – Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City (CBC).
