DREXEL, MO (July 8, 2025) — Community Blood Center (CBC) hosted a recent blood drive in Drexel in memory of Anthony Juarez, a beloved firefighter, coach, musician, husband, and father who tragically lost his life in March when a truck drove through a building he and his wife Devin were inside.

The event, held Tuesday, July 8 at the Drexel Community Building, brought out friends, neighbors, and supporters from across the area to honor Anthony’s legacy of service. Thanks to their generosity, the drive collected 23 units of blood, helping save lives and support local hospitals during a critically challenging time of year.

Anthony was a frequent blood donor himself, and his loved ones say this effort reflects who he was: always giving, always helping others.

“Anthony spent his life in service, as a firefighter and a donor. This drive was a way for our community to continue that spirit and keep his memory alive,” said Chelsey Smith, Director of Public Relations at Community Blood Center.

While the drive is over, the need for blood remains urgent. Summer is one of the hardest seasons to maintain a stable blood supply, and hospital demand often increases due to a rise in trauma cases. CBC encourages those who weren’t able to attend to make a donation at any local CBC donor center in Anthony’s honor.

Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give up to twice a month. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently updated eligibility guidelines, allowing more people than ever to donate.
