Host a Drive / Register for shaRED

Recruiting donors to keep an ample supply of blood available for people in the communities we serve is an ongoing effort. The nearly 60 hospitals served by the Community Blood Center require the collection of approximately 2,500 units every week to meet the needs of their patients. Unfortunately, while 60 percent of the population is eligible to give blood, only 5 percent choose to do so.

“Never thought about it” is the main reason 17% of non-donors haven’t donated; with another 15% stating they are “too busy.” Most of us will need a blood transfusion at some point in our lives. That means that you, your family and your peers will need the support of volunteer blood donors.

How can you help?

Approximately 70% of collections come from Blood Drives chaired by volunteers at schools, churches, organizations, and businesses. More than 1,500 chairpersons helped organize these drives last year.
