Program Rules

Cancer patients, accident victims and others with bleeding disorders need red blood cells, platelets and plasma every day, including weekends and holidays.

To recognize frequent donors and to help us serve local hospitals as efficiently as possible, we’ve created our Save A Life Advantage Program. 

How does the Advantage Program work?

Enrollment is automatic. Each time you save lives by making a blood, platelet or plasma donation you’ll earn Advantage points redeemable for a wide variety of gifts or gift cards. You can even donate your points to select charitable organizations.

Whole Blood or Automated Red Cell Donations

Whole Blood and Automated Red Cell donations made during these critical periods will earn an additional 50 Advantage points.

Platelet Donations

• 75 Additional Points for Platelet donations made on Saturday and Sunday

• 50 Additional Points for Platelet donations made on Monday and Friday

Because Platelets have just a five day shelf life, it is important that donations be made every day to ensure a fresh and ample supply. Certain "critical periods" which coincide with holidays and vacation seasons are especially important.

Platelet donations made during these critical periods will earn an additional 75 Advantage points.

Plasma Donations

Timing is Everything

Because platelets have just a five day shelf life and red blood cells last just 42 days, it is important that donations be made every day to ensure a fresh and ample supply. Certain “critical periods” which coincide with holidays and vacation seasons are especially important. Blood donations made during critical periods may earn bonus Advantage points. Also, platelet donations made on certain days of the week may earn bonus Advantage points. Calendar Year Bonus Points

Frequent donors can earn bonus Advantage points each calendar year. Make at least four donations and you will earn 75 bonus points. Each automated red cell donation will count as two donations toward your calendar year bonus.

Track Your Advantage Points Online

Visit donate.savealifenow.org to track and redeem your Advantage points, view your donation history, schedule donation appointments and more. You can also call us at 1-877-468-6844 for assistance.

Redeeming Points is Easy

You may select from a wide array of gifts, gift cards or blood center branded merchandise. You can even donate your points back to Community Blood Center or to other charitable organizations.

Advantage points are not transferable and are not redeemable for cash. Regardless of the type of donation you make, your Advantage points are automatically combined into a single account for your benefit.

Here's the Fine Print

The Advantage Program offers generous gifts for your frequent participation as a donor. You can donate whole blood every 56 days or automated red cells every 112 days. You can donate platelets every seven days up to 24 times each year and plasma every 28 days.

TO RETAIN YOUR EARNED POINTS YOU MUST MAKE AT LEAST ONE BLOOD, PLATELET OR PLASMA DONATION EVERY 13 MONTHS. IF YOU DO NOT MAKE ANY DONATIONS FOR A 13 MONTH PERIOD YOU WILL FORFEIT ALL REMAINING ADVANTAGE POINTS. THIS REQUIREMENT WILL BE WAIVED WHILE ANY DONOR IS TEMPORARILY OR PERMANENTLY DEFERRED FROM DONATING.
