Blood Inventory Management System: Working between Transfusion Service and Blood Center and Creating the Most Efficient Inventory

September 24, 2014, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Event Description: Blood utilization in the transfusion service is not a new topic. However, blood utilization has decreased 5% over recent years. This fact needs to be addressed not only by the transfusion service, but also by the blood center. Blood centers may respond by decreasing collections and asking transfusion services to become more efficient in their product management. It is essential the two parties engage in conversations and become proactive in managing their blood supply in the most efficient manner possible. This presentation describes a model for blood center and hospital transfusion service inventory management resulting in decreased outdate rates and better utilization of specific ABO types.
